News from the Chair October 2024

tetburybowlsclub

It was not the finish to the bowling season we would have liked at the Closing Gala but contingencies put in place in case of adverse weather paid off and we were able to enjoy an end to the playing season. Thanks to Mark for the quiz, Chris for the summer raffle prizes, and Heather, Dawn, Kim and Laura for the buffet and anyone else who lent a hand.

Our winter socials have started and bingo and a game of Balderdash (courtesy of Jan Yates) have already taken place.

Our new shirts have been received and are ready for distribution. Jake, one of the Directors of Specsavers, will be at the Club on Friday 25 October at 6.30 pm to hand over as many shirts as possible. This is also a bingo night so if you can make it down to receive your new shirt(s), please remember to bring your old laundered shirt(s). We are using the services of Swindon Town FC Foundation Trust to have them sent to Livingstone in Zambia for distribution through a local sports club.

Next on the list of events will be the Club's AGM on Monday 28 October starting at 7.00 pm. Please attend if you can.

The green has been put to bed after the major works carried out by Avonmore. This year the work was more involved as it was three years ago we last gave the green a full treatment. Roll on the spring to see the benefits.

Work has also been progressing with the replacement of the ditch back boards along the churchyard side along with the lifting of the slabs ready for relaying and leveling. Thanks to Vic, Brian C and Rob Hatto for their sterling endeavours.

We had a lot of favourable comments during the season for the work put in by members in the planting up and caring for pots around the green. We would invite those members who had pots and wish to carry on with the same pots next year, to check them over during the closed season, lifting any plants that will not survive the winter and maybe even planting spring bulbs in their place. For those members who wish to give up their pots or take on additional ones or, for those of you who have not already but would like to adopt a pot for next year, please let Heather Glassbrook know so that we can identify and allocate a pot to you.

There are still some places available for our annual Dinner Presentation.

Can you let me know if you wish to attend no later than 28 October and also if you wish to attend what is your menu choice. The cost is £25 per person and this needs to be paid by 28 October 2024 by BACS or at the bar using cash or card.
